Design Out Our Risks is how Mirvac entities discharge their duties under Work Health & Safety legislation for the safe design of structures.
It applies to every project — retail, office, industrial, residential apartments and houses, build-to-rent, masterplan communities and land subdivision. DOOR runs continuously through the design phase, because that is where the greatest impact can be made on eliminating or reducing risk across the whole asset lifecycle, and where the greatest value is created.
Four parties carry duties for safe design under the WHS Act, through consultation, cooperation and coordination:
Designer obligations apply to any entity that designs — the responsibilities follow the activity performed, not the formal role.
Bring designers, project teams and operational stakeholders together to identify Safety in Design risks early enough that they can be eliminated or minimised through design changes. The workshop shapes the design — it does not simply document risk.
Capture risks and opportunities, rate them against the Mirvac matrix, and export a formatted register to Excel. Ratings calculate automatically from consequence and likelihood.
Describe the risk or opportunity and where it sits.
Pick consequence and likelihood — the rating calculates itself.
Describe the mitigation and how the risk is treated.
Rate the residual risk after mitigation, then assign the action.
